Discover the joy of movement through playful exploration with a hula hoop. This beginner-friendly workshop invites participants to move with a prop, explore rhythm and creativity, and find their own unique flow in a supportive, low-pressure space. No prior experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to play.
Nora Phillips is a Madison-based circus artist and educator with a passion for making movement joyful and accessible. A hula hoop specialist and longtime circus coach, she has been teaching workshops since 2019 and works with performers of all ages and experience levels. Her classes emphasize creativity, body awareness, and finding your own unique flow—no prior experience required.

Enjoying Seasonal & Local Foods: Tips and Hands-On Cooking

This interactive workshop explores simple, practical ways to connect with local farms and enjoy seasonal foods in everyday life. REAP Food Group will share information on accessing local produce through farmers’ markets, CSAs, and supportive grocery stores and restaurants, along with tips for eating with the seasons.
Forage Founder Henry Aschauer will lead a short, hands-on kitchen demonstration focused on building flavorful bowls and dressings and sampling, followed by a Q&A. Flynn Creek Farm will also join the session to share samples of farm-grown veggies transformed into tasty jarred delights, and information about their farm. Participants will leave with inspiration, resources, and approachable ideas for using seasonal produce at home.
REAP Food Group, Forage Kitchen, and Flynn Creek Farm each play a role in strengthening Wisconsin’s local food system. REAP Food Group is a Madison-based nonprofit that connects communities to local farms through education, advocacy, and programs like Farm to School; Forage Kitchen is a Madison restaurant focused on fresh, locally sourced meals that support regional producers; and Flynn Creek Farm produces foods rooted in sustainable farming and local ingredients, helping connect people more closely to where their food comes from.

Weaving with Traditional Fibers: Create a Cattail Trivet

Learn about traditional methods of harvesting and preparing cattails for weaving. Create your own cattail trivet to take home with you.
Lightning New Rider is a tribally enrolled member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, with ancestral ties to the Poni, Otoe, Oneida, and Arikara nations. He holds a degree in landscape and horticultural design and carries lifelong knowledge shared by elders and relatives, rooted in traditional teachings of Mother Earth and our plant relatives.
Working with natural fibers such as dogbane, bulrush, cattail, and cedar, Mr. New Rider creates mats and baskets and shares Indigenous teachings on harvesting plants and foods. He is passionate about helping others understand what it means to be connected to Mother Earth. Mr. New Rider has also founded a catering business centered on cooking vegetarian and Indigenous foods.

Learn to Cook Over a Campfire

Learn basic fire building skills and then some simple meals to cook over the fire including a cobbler and veggie packs. The veggie packs are vegan/vegetarian friendly and gluten free, the cobbler is vegetarian friendly.
Sarah has worked at the Aldo Leopold Nature Center for over 7 years and has been teaching about conservation for even longer. She loves teaching all ages, abilities, and interests about various nature and conservation topics.

Beadwork with Lillian White Eagle

With this beading project, we will be creating a beaded keychain. We will be going over the lazy stitch method, as well as, the 2-needle method. Each individual beads at their own pace, just as each bead holds memories. I will be there to guide you through creating your own piece of art.
Ho-Chunk Indigenous Artist – Lillian White Eagle – Lillian and her family create and offer classes in beadwork, Ho-Chunk finger weaving, sewing, and showcase cultural dancing. She is a Mother, Dancer, Teacher, Runner and Artist. Lillian was also the Pow-Wow Coordinator for the DeJope Pow-Wow that was held in Monona in 2024.

Behind the Beer: A Tour & Guided Tasting

Take a guided tour of the Delta Beer Lab brewing facility to learn all things beer (and science!). Delta staff will guide you through the entire brewing process, diving deep into what each step and ingredient contributes to the final product. Mighty Mushrooms: Medicinal Mushroom have been used for thousands of years for a plethora of purposes. They are packed with important nutrients such as vitamin D, vitamin B6, selenium, potassium, and more. Their immunomodulating properties can help support our immune systems; they offer powerful support to our brain health and cognitive functions; they are a rich source of antioxidants. Dirt & Dreams — Starting Your Garden from Seed

There’s something magical about turning tiny seeds into something thriving. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how to confidently choose and start seeds — from understanding catalogs and seed packets to picking easy-to-grow veggie and flower varieties. We’ll talk germination rates, growing days, planting plans, and practical tips that make gardening feel approachable whether you’re growing in raised beds, a small community garden plot, or pots on the patio. You’ll wrap up by planting seeds of your own to take home. Included with the workshop is a dowel tool for making compostable paper pots so you can keep growing with confidence all season long and for years to come.
Christine Welcher is a former small-scale, organic farmer and educator who loves helping others learn by doing. After years of teaching growers from around the world about organic production and sustainable growing practices, she now leads the Monona East Side Business Alliance—but still finds joy in helping beginners start something new, one seed at a time.

Bone Broth Make & Try Workshop: Bone broth is a daily tonic and traditional cold/flu remedy in many cultures. It can be consumed alone or used as a base for soups and stews. By adding herbs specific to you and your family, you can nourish the ones you love. This class will cover how to make bone broth and ideas for beneficial herbs that can add healthful properties to your broth. Krystal will be making bone broth in this class and sharing samples. Hint: consider taking this and the Mighty Mushroom class, there will be lots of useful crossover information.

Local Adventures
Find solace among the trees and ponds at Edna Taylor Conservation Park originally home to the Ho-Chunk. Perhaps you’ll sneak a peek at the wild turkeys or resident deer.
Six linear mounds and one panther burial are located on a high glacial drumlin along the eastern side of the conservancy – among the few that remain in Monona.
Open daily – Lake Ridge Bank River Rink – skate rentals, ice cream, and hot drinks available. Or enjoy the outdoor fire pits with takeout from Buck & Honey’s.
Almost hidden on a small path through the trees, find Wyldhaven Park in Monona. Locals know this lovely little park is the place to enjoy a beautiful sunset or sunrise view of the capital from the waterfront platform deck.
