Monona's Memorial Day Parade

The Monona Memorial Day Parade is held each Memorial Day running from Monona Grove High School to Sennett Middle School.

The parade begins at 10am and wraps up close to noon. This parade celebrates our Veterans and brings the community together for a fun event showcasing many local groups, businesses, and first and foremost Veterans. Following the parade throughout the day VFW Post 7591 holds services at Blooming Grove Cemetery, Roselawn Cemetery, Highland Memorial Cemetery, Madison’s Veterans Memorial Park, and VFW 7591.

New Project Honoring Veterans with Memorial Day Banners

Monona is starting a heartfelt tradition to honor our local heroes this Memorial Day! Inspired by a successful program in Sun Prairie, Dan McIlroy has brought forward the idea of displaying banners along the parade route to celebrate veterans and their families. For Dan, this project is deeply personal—both his father and father-in-law are veterans, making this tribute especially meaningful.

The inspiration first came from a colleague in Ohio and was successfully implemented in Sun Prairie in 2023. When Dan presented the idea to the Monona Memorial Day Parade Committee, it was met with overwhelming support. Now, the banners will not only honor local veterans but also raise funds for the Veterans Memorial in Ahuska Park.

Families, businesses, and community members are invited to sponsor banners, creating a beautiful visual tribute while supporting this important cause. This project is a collaboration between the City of Monona, Monona East Side Business Alliance, the Memorial Day Parade Committee, and local veterans.
